Weekend fun

Weddings are fun...especially at other's expense (pun intended). The last weekend ended on a high & extended note - culminating with my cousin taking marriage vows with the love of her life....They were a cute couple, thoroughly basking in the limelight and dressed to kill & elicit whistles of approval from the rest of us.

There was the usual tension associated with the "early-muhurtham" further enhanced by the rituals that were followed by the groom's family. The bride-to-be had to undertake a vratham in an "amman koil" before the muhurtham accompanied by 10 sumangalis (5 from each "side") & a horde of other curious women onlookers (that would be me). The fun part began when my "tension-ful" chinnana (the bride's dad) called to let us know that we were late, as soon as we reached the temple premises. Not that it deterred us in any way - by the time we reached the marriage hall, a search party had been sent for us, chinnana's BP was on an all-time high, the bride was worried that she might not find time to set her hair and wear the jewellery meant for the occassion, the pandit was shouting his throat dry that the "kasi yatra" can be performed after the thali was tied for lack of time. It was a riot.....

Guess it goes without saying that it was a thoroughly memorable wedding with the groom and bride actually crossing paths when the former was on the way to the kasi yatra (& only me noticing it). The food was amazing as ever and am still regretting not having the sense to "amukkify" some kasi halwa that was part of the tiffin menu... will make it up in the next wedding that is coming up this month end.......(rubbing hands in gleeful anticipation)

lol @ the pun!
weddings definitely are a lot of fun- one gets to see so many characters and as poirot says- we can observe human nature at it's "best"... lot of scope to sit back and watch the drama unfold. ;-)
