- how delightfully romantic & imaginative! of course the previous generation would probably find even these too blatant & prefer extreme subtlety in expressing true love. (but lets not get into that for now)..wish the above-listed lines were representative of the overall quality of tamil-film songs these days.
whatever is happening to the concept of meaningful, soulful lyrics ? It's becoming an increasingly tough task to come across a song that conveys love as a pure feeling, an emotion by itself. Almost all songs these days (come to think of it even in the early 80s) have lines that are laced with double entendre's, expressing love to be synonymous with lust (an advaitic philosophy by itself) & relegating the sole intention of companionship to basic instincts!
While on this thought process, i cannot help but mention the humiliatingly obscene manner in which a woman's anatomy is described in most songs. It's way beyond my comprehending capabilities to figure out who stands to gain (what i ask) from such revolting experiments? If a tune is catchy & the dance movements complement the former, it's rather unlikely that a song doesn't feature in the *top-of-the-charts*. That being the case, why is demeaning a woman & describing her as a sex-symbol the norm of lyric-writing?
Why is there a big hue n cry being made abt a certain moslem actress' comments on AIDS? Why is it that people (politicians & the common man alike)who take up the task of pursuing such frivolous oppositions fail to address other burning issues such as vulgarity in films?
Reform has to start at the basic level - at the root if anyone out there is even a teeny-weeny bit serious about it. Wish all the women folk could join hands & bring about a renaissance in lyric-writing. Hopefully, the day is not far away.....

nowadays couple of women lyricists are also in the fray, who bring an air of freshness to movie songs and I see originality in expressiveness. Having said that, no lyrics can become a poem. Poem is extempore unmatched outpurings of feeling (whatever it may). A true poet for a language comes very rarely. I think last time we had a poet was Bharathi. There are other names like Dharumu Sivaramu who I have heard and read very fraction of his writtings. All noble things are marked by a quality called rarity, same goes for true poet or poems..rest are all kuppais.
Its not even abt expressing higher concepts or ideas....they can atleast stop writing crap!
