Religion in my not-so-humble opinion evolved as a means to bring in a sense of discipline and moral values into a community - to establish a system that would be easy to "manage". In a land that boasts of cultural extravagance and unrivaled tradition to keep pace with the former, the Ramayana and the Mahabharatha unquestionably summarize what the vaidiki way of life is all about. The vaidiki tradition has gone through all the transformations possible over the centuries and yugas and the current brahminism (bloggetic justice) albeit just a semblance of what it originally was, is still something that i'm proud to be a part of.
Shradda (faith/belief) is religion. The old man asks - Why is it so important to believe in something? Why does one need to believe in Ram and the bridge he is supposed to have built with the help of vanaras?& even better...this learned pandit wants to know which educational institution the unparalleled hero attended. Man! when half the state (accounting roughly for the coalition) can believe and look upto you (a mere mortal with all possible weaknesses) as a leader of the masses - why wouldn't a soul as pure as Rama - the hero who chose to be righteous all through, be an everlasting symbol of hope - a silver lining in an otherwise deteriorating system, where the leader himself preaches disrespect towards people's religious beliefs?
For millions in this country (& outside it) who worship Rama in the true sense, such ridicule is hardly worth a discussion simply 'coz in a Ramarajya, there is no room for grudge and revenge....let fools die (oops! )......
