The desi touch...

Ever thought certain features were unique to our country? The "it happens only in India" impression? nah? well i've had many of those & have infact cherished our "heritage" (which includes but is not restricted to the "no meter, flat rate", "cooling irka", "fuffs onnu kudu pa" likes).

Our thanga thalaivar, chinna kalaivaanar Vivek rightly points out in "Parthiban kanavu" that the PTC bus never halts at the stop but a 100 paces ahead. Quite obviously this observation went into my list of IHOII and occupied the top ten slots for weeks to come. Then it all shattered....when moi stepped into this island country. My first day on campus (had taken a cab to the campus) and I was waiting for the campus shuttle, which promptly went a full 100m ahead of the actual stopping area giving the students a fair share of a jogging drill. Brushing it off as a one-off incident, i panted and boarded the freezing bus little realizing that it was just a "warm-up".

So folks, apparently the "i-will-halt-but-never-at-the-stop" attitude has found its way all the way to this part of Asia. The shock has taken a while to subside and I am already scratching out a lot more such "uniquely desi" features from my list...SIGH!

with doors always open it is a real thrill during my college days to chase those buses and get into them. This is realy IHOII. (may be in west indies, brazil?)MOstly they dont stop during "boys only standing times". Else such heroics would have impressed atleast one girl in four years :(.
